The Sick Children's Trust was founded by 2 paediatric specialists who recognized that children need their Mum, Dad, brothers and sisters with them when being treated for serious illnesses, and that this hugely benefits their recovery. The Trust runs 7 ‘homes from home’ at the major children's hospitals in the UK and has helped more than 30,000 families since they opened their first home at Great Ormond Street in 1984. It relies entirely on voluntary donations and needs almost £1 million a year to keep these houses open.
